One of the best features of modern IPTV is the ability to browse channels just like you would on a traditional cable box. However, occasionally, you might open your app and find that your TV Guide is completely blank, displaying messages like “No Information” or “No EPG Data”.
In this guide, we will explain exactly what an EPG is, why it disappears, and how you can fix it on your favorite IPTV apps.
EPG stands for Electronic Program Guide. It is the digital menu that shows you what TV shows, movies, or sporting events are currently playing on a specific channel, as well as what is scheduled to play next.
When you purchase an IPTV subscription, you are generally provided with two pieces of data:
Note: If you use the XTREAM Codes API login method (Username, Password, and Server URL), your EPG data is automatically pulled from the server along with the playlist. This is why we always recommend XTREAM over standard M3U links.
If your channels are playing perfectly fine, but the guide is blank, it is usually due to one of three reasons:
EPG data is massive. Because TV schedules change daily, your app needs to download the new schedule from the server regularly. If your device was turned off, or if your internet briefly dropped during the scheduled update, the app will show blank data.
The EPG data file provides times in a universal format (UTC). Your IPTV app then calculates the time difference based on your device’s internal clock. If your Firestick or Android Box has the wrong timezone or daylight savings setting, the guide will show the wrong shows playing at the wrong times.
Occasionally, the IPTV provider’s EPG server goes down for maintenance. When this happens, no data can be downloaded. This is usually temporary and resolves itself within a few hours.
Here is how you can force your app to fetch the latest TV Guide data.
IPTV Smarters is notorious for failing to update the EPG automatically if you leave the app running in the background.
TiviMate handles EPG data better than almost any other app, but it can still get stuck.
If your guide data is showing up, but it says the morning news is playing at 11:00 PM at night, you have a timezone issue.
At 4K Live IPTV, we maintain dedicated EPG servers that sync directly with global broadcasters. This ensures that our 18,000+ channels have accurate, up-to-the-minute guide data, complete with Catch-up TV support for up to 7 days.
